Start Of School

LaPlace – Academic classes and fall athletics are in full swing! The halls of St. Charles Catholic High School are filled with the sights and sounds of youthful enthusiasm and excitement.  The first school Mass for the entire student body was recently held in the school’s Commons.

The Mass, which was offered on the feast of St. Matthew the Apostle, was celebrated by the school’s new chaplain, Father Bo Majors.

Father Bo continued the theme in his homily challenging us all to remember that Jesus calls us as we are, that though St. Matthew was a Tax Collector and sinner, Jesus chose him to be one of his Apostles.

Also, at the Mass twelve Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion were commissioned for Masses at SCC, as well as at their home church parishes.  The following senior students were selected as Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Communion for the 2017-2018 school year:  Nicol Bourgeois, Jade Brady, Shana Breaux, Abby Bryant, Anna Dawson, Kenneth Matar, Callie Henry, Grace Mohon, Dominique Perilloux, Grace Richoux, Joshua Sherman, and Haley St. Martin.

After Mass, Principal Drew Cupit welcomed and addressed all of the students regarding his expectations for the upcoming school year.  Cupit addressed the student body on the importance of personal responsibility.  He focused on the school’s mission with regards to faith, academics, extracurricular activities and service.

“The fall semester of school is always exciting for all of us at SCC,” said Cupit.  “We look forward to focusing our efforts on helping our students to learn, encouraging them to achieve their dreams and ultimately preparing them to earn their diplomas and move on to college while focusing on faith and service.  We all realize that this is an awesome responsibility, but it is one we gladly accept.  Parent involvement is one of the keys to the success of SCC. We are happy to begin another great year of teaching and learning in our new and improved school facility and also another great season of Comet Friday Night Football.”
