Packed House for SCC's Back to School Night

Packed House for SCC's Back to School Night

St. Charles Catholic High School recently hosted its annual Back to School Night. Administrators welcomed hundreds of parents who came out and followed their teenager's schedule and met the teachers of SCC. Parents learned about SCC’s dual enrollment program, technology upgrades, and about the continued capital improvement plans at SCC.

Tyler Forsythe, SCC’s new Dean of Students, reviewed the high expectations that we have for the students at SCC. He also highlighted items in the student handbook as well as the school’s crisis plan.

Students participating in the dual enrollment program at St. Charles Catholic High School earn both high school and college credit.  Hundreds of college credits have been earned during the past ten years by the students at SCC from the dual enrollment programs with Southeastern Louisiana, River Parish Community College, and Louisiana Tech University.  Students have gained an academic advantage through the credits earned and the experience of a college curriculum. According to Courtney Millet, the school principal, “the purpose is to give SCC students a jump start on college.”

With regards to technology, teachers and students are continuing with the one-to-one program with Apple iPads and MacBooks. SCC students utilize the many applications that Apple offers in order to enhance the curriculum. Teachers are incorporating interactive Promethean boards, iPads, and MacBooks into their daily instruction. Students use the iPad and MacBook while participating in critical thinking, analysis and research within the classroom and at home.

Parents not only learned about the spiritual and academic focus at St. Charles Catholic High School, but also more about the on-going capital improvements. Improvements to the facility will continue to center on building enhancements and upgrades key to improving the teaching-learning experience as well as safety at SCC.

During Back to School Night, the brief class sessions provided parents an excellent opportunity to meet their child’s teachers and to preview the academic expectations in each of their classes. The informative evening also provide parents with what they need to know to help their teenagers have a successful 2022-23 school year. The school will host its annual Open House for prospective students on Thursday, October 27, 2022. All students in grades 6, 7, and 8 are invited to attend.
