This Week at SCC

What a fun-filled week so far here at SCC! We'd like to thank everyone who helped to make this week so special.

Tuesday was special because we celebrated our first Mass together as a school and we also welcomed our first Comet for a Day visitors! Thank you to our retired school chaplain, Fr. Walter Austin, and our Chemistry teacher, Deacon Tom, for celebrating with us. Our student participants were:

Altar Servers - Caylee Drexel and Carter Ory

Music Ministry - Torie Joseph, Maggie Powell, Lily Bordelon, Morgana Lee, Tank Nelson, Alexia Deselles, & Hannah Emery

Eucharistic Ministers - Maggie Powell & Allison Powell

Readers - Grace Harris & Layla Jackson

We'd like to congratulate our seven seniors who were delegated and commissioned to serve as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion after being trained last year. Congratulations to Jake Jeandron, Jeanne St. Martin, Jenna Hickman, Karen Trichell, Maggie Powell, Allison Powell, & Tiffany Williams.

Snowballs at Lunch
After Mass, SCC surprised the students with the Kona Snowball Truck in the courtyard! It was a sweet treat to celebrate being together again!

Spend a Day
We have welcomed several middle school students from our area to campus this week as they shadow current students and learn all about what it means to be a Comet! We look forward to welcoming more of you in the weeks ahead!

College Fair
Our juniors and seniors attended our College Fair on September 30 during lunch where they met admissions representatives from colleges near and far! Visitors from 25 higher education institutions came to our campus today to meet our Comets! Thank you to Mrs. Bologna for helping our upper classmen explore the many possibilities ahead of them during this fair. Good luck in all your applications, Comets!

Open House, Comet for a Day!

Do you know of a student or family who is interested in learning more about SCC? Please invite them to our Open House on October 28, 2021, and tell them all about our Comet for a Day events!Registration links are available on our website in the Admissions tab!

On October 5, all SCC students will take the ACT or Pre-ACT here on campus. We're so glad to be able to offer our students a chance to take this important exam in the comfort of their own classrooms. We'll be sending out an official schedule for this day next week since it will be an early dismissal day. In the meantime, our teachers are at work preparing the Comets for this test, using our Mastery Prep tools and years of experience to help the students grow each day toward their goal scores.

Remember to bring your #2 standard pencil and your calculator.

Virtual ACT Boot Camp

We are so excited to offer our juniors and seniors this unique opportunity to learn about best practices for taking the ACT with experts from Mastery Prep, the premier ACT Prep organization.

These sessions will take place via Zoom on Sunday, October 3 from 5-9 p.m.

This Virtual Boot Camp will be available to students wherever they are, as long as they have access to WiFi and a computer.

The purpose of this Boot Camp is for students to learn: pacing and time management, test-taking and guessing strategies, tips for the most important question types, as well as, to gain confidence before taking the ACT test on Tuesday, October 5.

There will be a 15 minute break during the 4 hour Boot Camp session on Sunday evening. Students are expected to be on their best behavior and are encouraged to use this Bootcamp to their advantage. Administration will be monitoring the virtual bootcamp.

All Juniors and Seniors must complete this Google Form by Friday at 8am to let us know who will be attending this optional and virtual event. This form will also let us know if there is a need for us to open the school for students to use during this event because they may be experiencing difficulties with WiFi capabilities at home. Students who participate in the Boot Camp will need an ACT Boot Camp Workbook. This form will also let us know which students need a workbook. Only SCC Juniors or Seniors will be able to complete this Google Form, parents, please make sure that your child has completed the form by Friday morning.

Complete this Google Form by Friday, Oct. 1 at 8 a.m.

Students will receive a link via email before Sunday evening to access the Zoom sessions.

The virtual Boot Camp will engage students through pop-up questions to ensure student engagement – showing real time results to the group. Students will be able to ask questions via chat, and we will have school admin/teachers participating as well in our virtual ACT prep class.

This experience will help you realize that you have the skills to perform college-level coursework and gives our school the information we need to get you there. As you know, earning a good score on the ACT is essential for admission to many colleges, universities, TOPS awards, as well as, technical college programs.
