Message from the Principal (11/19/20)

Dear Comets,

Thank you so much for your cooperation in moving so quickly to the blended learning model. This beautiful and cool weather reminds us that we really are in the middle of November and have so much to be thankful for each day. As we move forward, our prayers here at SCC are that we continue to work together and grow as a school community, one that appreciates its faith, one that appreciates the commitment and sacrifices that each of you make, and one that keeps serving the community as a whole. Please be reminded that our annual Open House for prospective students is tomorrow night. Please encourage your friends, relatives, and neighbors who may have prospective high school students to continue their child's Catholic education at St. Charles Catholic High School. Many thanks for your positive comments on social media. We are proud to be at a high school where faith, knowledge, and friends meet!

Our cross country team returned safely from Natchitoches after competing in the state meet on Wednesday, and our swim team heads to Shreveport tomorrow. We are super proud of our student-athletes!

Progress Reports

Second quarter progress reports will be emailed to all parents and students today by 5 p.m. in an effort to inform parents of any difficulties a student may be experiencing so improvements can be made before the official second quarter report card is issued.

A progress report is not a report card, and because they are being issued four weeks before the end of this grading period they give your student a chance to bring his/her grades up before official report cards are issued. If your child's interim report is not what you hoped, it's time to sit down and calmly speak to your student about their classes and coursework. Please encourage your student to participate in our teacher’s virtual office hours this upcoming Friday as well as use this upcoming Thanksgiving week to catch up on reading, assignments, Math IXL/XL, and studying.

 FCA – Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child provides Christmas gifts in a shoebox for needy children around the world. This giving project is sponsored by FCA. All SCC students are encouraged participate. Shoeboxes filled with small gifts are due no later than Friday, November 20 at 12 noon or bring to the FCA meeting Thursday night. Please label your box “boy” or “girl.”  All SCC families are encouraged to fill a shoebox for either a boy or girl (age 8-12) with a few of the following new items:  school supplies, rosaries, prayer books, toothbrushes, soap, combs, small stuffed animal or matchbox cars, socks, and books. Or, feel free to drop off some cute and new items and FCA will stuff the shoeboxes for you!  Operation Christmas Child is a fantastic and fun way to get your family involved in the evangelism and discipleship of children around the world.  Please visit the following website ( or see Coach Zeringue for more details.

Faith Formation Friday

I’m looking forward to our mandatory Faith Formation on Friday. Please be sure to join by way of ZOOM for our Thanksgiving Mass at 11 a.m.  Although the televised Mass is not a substitute for participation in the actual celebration of the Church's liturgy, it does provide an opportunity for our students to be physically and mentally present 1) to identify with SCC’s worshiping community, 2) to hear the Word of God, 3) and to be moved to expressions of praise and thanksgiving.

We encourage everyone to be quiet and reverent during the school Mass and to do as much as what is normal during Mass….full, active and conscious participation! Use the proper postures at the proper times (stand, sit, kneel) and respond when appropriate. Be aware that you are in communion with many others from SCC. You are also in communion with all the angels and saints!

At the time of communion, pray the Spiritual Communion prayer and be quiet, still and reverent. Immediately after Mass, take a minute or two of silent prayer and reflect and give thanks to God for the Mass.

Friday Football

We regret to inform our Comet Country that there will not be a football game this upcoming Friday night. The game has been cancelled by Cohen Prep. In addition, the week of Thanksgiving is a ‘bye’ week for our football team.  Congratulations to our Comets on their big win this past Friday night. Stay tuned as we head to the playoffs in December!

Social Media

The high school admissions process is upon us. Social media is an integral part of SCC’s outward presence, especially during recruiting time! The stories we share are amplified by social media reach, creating an ideal method of spreading the good news of an SCC education. Whether it’s by posting a message or a picture, share what our school has to offer to the community - we appreciate your cooperation in this very important endeavor.

Attention Seniors

SENIORS should now be well into the planning phase of the college application process. November and especially Thanksgiving break should be used to narrow down choices and complete application paperwork.  Although most colleges will accept applications until Christmas, students are encouraged to submit them prior to December 15 in order to be considered for scholarships.

Thanksgiving Food Drive

Thank you to our Comet families for your kind generosity.  You truly live out our mission here at SCC!  Our annual food drive supports Ascension of our Lord Parish food bank’s Thanksgiving program. Thank you so much for helping us serve others.

In Closing

In this season of thanksgiving, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for all that you do. You are appreciated! Please keep those who have been impacted by COVID-19, storms, floods, and other natural disasters in your prayers.

On behalf of the St. Charles Catholic High School staff, I wish to extend a heartfelt thank you for entrusting your son or daughter to the important elements of a Catholic education. Truly, your commitment to your teenager’s education will make a lifelong difference.

Wishing you a Thanksgiving overflowing with peace, love and laughter.  This is a special time to count our blessings and all things that we are grateful for.  Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

With gratitude,

Courtney Millet

1 Thessalonians 5:18 states,

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

We have so many things to be grateful for this year at St. Charles Catholic. Campus Ministry has asked our students and teachers to take a moment out of their busy week to stop and reflect on the question: What are you grateful for?  Throughout the week, our students and teachers have been placing their notes in the BOWL OF GRATITUDE outside the front office.
