Update on Preparations for the 2020-2021 School Year (7/30/20)

Dear Comets,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year at St. Charles Catholic High School. As we enter this school year, the path before us contains many unknowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Rest assured that the administration and teachers of SCC have spent this summer preparing for the 2020-2021 school year, in whatever form it takes. We are embracing the challenges before us and, and we will continue to provide outstanding academic and spiritual instruction to our students.

After several months of planning and careful consideration, administration has made the decision to begin the school year on August 17 by adopting the Blended Learning Model for all students. Because of our school size and to be in compliance with safety guidelines, we believe this is the best option for our students and teachers at this time.

Students will be divided alphabetically based on their last names into two groups. Each group will meet on alternating days on campus for a traditional school setting. In order to give full attention to the students on campus, SCC teachers will give 100% of their attention to the students on site from August 17 – August 27. After August 27, should SCC remain in the Blended Learning Model, students not on campus will be expected to participate in real time, synchronous learning through their personal devices using Google meets. Detailed instructions will follow as the school year begins.

We have made the following adjustments to our school calendar in order to reduce the number of students on campus on any given day. Please also note that we have deleted the traditional book day in order to spread our student retreats over a two-day period.

SCC truly values our relationship with parents and considers parents to be our partners in the education of their teenagers. While COVID-19 has forced us to cancel many of our typical events, we intend to find ways to keep you connected to SCC. Please click here for the SCC Back to School Plan 2020. This information includes details of our return to school and the protocols that will be in place to ensure the safe and healthy environment for our students and faculty. Please complete the survey sent out today as well as read our weekly Comet News for important updates.

There is no doubt that this year is going to be different due to the COVID-19 pandemic and all of the protocols that will be in place to keep our students and faculty safe. Please note the following:
For arrival on each day, there will be a limited number of entrances to the campus. Temperature checks for students and staff will be conducted daily upon arrival to school utilizing a touchless thermometer. Students with a temperature of 100.4 or greater will be directed to a supervised isolation space to have his/her temperature re-checked after approximately 10 minutes. If the temperature remains 100.4 or greater, the student must return home.
Each student will be required to wear a mask throughout the day. We will issue one free white Hanes brand mask to each student on their orientation and retreat days.
There will be required hand hygiene enforced throughout the day.
Desks in classrooms will be spread out to ensure physical distancing.

As always, the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff are our primary focus. More detailed instructions and schedules will be sent out as we get closer to the start of school.

Regardless of the “look” of the school, the heart of SCC remains the same and our unrivaled spirit will be ever present. Our dedication to the young men and women entrusted to our care will be front and center in every decision and action we take.

Thank you for your confidence and trust, and we are grateful to you for the sacrifices you make to choose SCC for your teenagers. May God bless us and guide us during these difficult times.
