Math Summer Assignments
This year's common Summer Read for English 8 - English IV is called The Boy, The Mole, The Fox, and The Horse, written by Charlie Mackesy. The book is a recent sensation full of deep truths communicated by the conversations and reflections of the four characters. This book was selected for the SCC students and community in the hopes that this simple story will inspire complex and engaging conversations in our classroom and beyond. We encourage students to read the book closely and meditate on the ideas in the book that spark thoughts and emotions. We also invite parents to read the story and talk it over with the students. For a glimpse at the book and it's author, click here.

Math Summer Assignments
If for some reason you get logged out of your IXL during the summer and have forgotten your login information, please email Mrs. Beckmann at beckmann.joneva@stcharlescatholic.org and she will be glad to send you that information.
Please be aware that Mrs. Beckmann will be checking her email during the summer, but she may not check it everyday. We pray for you as you continue to practice your math skills this summer to prepare for next year's math classes.

Class of 2020 Graduation
The class of 2020, together with family and friends, were able to celebrate their Commencement with a ceremony and prayer service on June 19, 2020 in Thomas Dupuy Stadium. The two salutatorians and six valedictorians addressed their class and assembled love ones from a stage on Comet Field. Fr. David Ducote, SCC Chaplain, led a scripture reflection before Dr. Millet, Mrs. Creppel, and Mr. Scalco conferred diplomas to the graduates. It was lovely evening for the Comet Family, and we're so proud of the outstanding Class of 2020. Each of them truly exemplifies what it means to be a Comet, and each will certainly be missed. Good luck to you, Class of 2020! As Dr. Millet said in her remarks to you, "we certainly expect great things from you!" Congratulations!

Class of 2021 Laptop Night
Last night, our new Seniors received their MacBooks and were treated to pizza on campus. We were so excited to have this group together again, and we look forward to continuing our Traditions with a Twist for the Class of 2021. This particular tradition, the Senior Technology Night, was given a boys-hour & girls-hour twist in order to keep the meetings smaller, but they were nonetheless full of encouragement and congratulations for these newest leaders of our school community. We know we're in good hands with these Seniors!

Super Senior Week for Class of 2021: July 15-17
Save the date for Senior pictures and yearbook portraits with Romaguera. These sessions will take place at SCC July 15-17. More information coming soon.

Cindy Deroche Memorial Scholarship
SCC would like to congratulate Jace Oubre, SCC Senior, on his recent receipt of the Cindy Deroche Memorial Scholarship. Cindy Deroche was a smiling face and "angel among us" who worked in the SCC front office for many years. Her memorial plaque hangs in our front entry, reminding us of her unfailing kindness each day. After her passing, Mrs. Deroche's family established a scholarship fund in her honor. Earl Deroche, Jr., Melissa Deroche, and service dog Emma Jean, presented Jace Oubre his $1000 scholarship this week. We'd like to thank the generosity of the Deroche family and offer our congratulations to Jace! Well deserved!

SCHOOL INFORMATION & ANNOUNCEMENTS
SUMMER OFFICE HOURS
Our front office is open Monday – Thursday from 9am - 2pm. The office will be closed from July 1-10. Please get your PE uniforms and socks soon!

TUITION INVOICES
Thanks to all who have already paid in full or taken out a bank loan for school year 2020-21. You still have a full month to arrange this loan with FBT. The final date to submit a loan application to obtain a tuition loan for the 2020- 2021 school year is July 9, 2020.

The Office of Catholic School has directed schools to follow their normal procedures for invoicing tuition. Please know we are sensitive to families in these uncertain times. The reality, however, is that SCC is a tuition-operated school, and without tuition, we cannot exist. Thus, while every effort has been made to keep tuition as low as possible (just compare our tuition to other comparable schools), we must ask for tuition payments for next year in order to hire the best teachers, provide the most extensive curriculum, and offer the facilities in which our students can thrive. Thanks for your understanding. Please call Dr. Millet if extraordinary circumstances are causing problems.

CATHOLIC COUNSELING SERVICES
These are tough times, and we know some of students and families are struggling emotionally. Catholic Counseling Service (CCS) continues to offer telehealth services to through the phone or video-conferencing platforms. This method of counseling allows CCS to extend services across the archdiocese to areas not previously available. To speak with someone or to make an appointment please call Catholic Counseling Service at (504) 861-6245 or email at CCS@arch-no.org or check the website
at https://nolacatholic.org/catholic-counseling-service
Clarion Herald
The Clarion Herald can be found here. This special publication put together by the Archdiocese of New Orleans helps us to stay connected as Catholics.

In closing, please join SCC in praying our Family Prayer

Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism.

We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people.

Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence.

Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human dignity in our community.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. Mother Henriette Delille, pray for us that we may be a holy family.
