Comet News - Thursday, June 11

News from Campus & General Announcements

Dear Comets,

Our country is experiencing the pain of troubling social unrest due to the sins of violence, murder, and racism. In light of the turmoil our country is experiencing, let us remember that Jesus' prayer as he left the Earth is that all might be one. Let us strive for this and live according to Jesus' great commandment, "Love one another, as I have loved you." Let us promote peaceful harmony and pray for one another. Through uncertain times, our faith and our mission will continue to guide us at SCC. Please continue to join us in praying 'Our Family Prayer' for the Archdiocese of New Orleans which follows in this issue of the Comet News.

Sincerely,
Courtney Millet

Math Summer Assignments

This year's common Summer Read for English 8 - English IV is called The Boy, The Mole, The Fox, and The Horse, written by Charlie Mackesy. The book is a recent sensation full of deep truths communicated by the conversations and reflections of the four characters. This book was selected for the SCC students and community in the hopes that this simple story will inspire complex and engaging conversations in our classroom and beyond. We encourage students to read the book closely and meditate on the ideas in the book that spark thoughts and emotions. We also invite parents to read the story and talk it over with the students. For a glimpse at the book and it's author, click here.

Math Summer Assignments
If for some reason you get logged out of your IXL during the summer and have forgotten your login information, please email Mrs. Beckmann at beckmann.joneva@stcharlescatholic.org and she will be glad to send you that information.
Please be aware that Mrs. Beckmann will be checking her email during the summer, but she may not check it everyday. We pray for you as you continue to practice your math skills this summer to prepare for next year's math classes.

Summer Message

In the past, Archbishop Aymond issued the following letter at the end of the school year to the young people of the Archdiocese. While he didn’t issue it this year, it’s worth reading again. We encourage our young people to heed these words:
I pray in a special way for each of the young people in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Know that you are important to all of our ministries, in parishes, schools and other programs.
I am aware of the educational experience you have received in regard to the use of electronic media. You know very well how to use the tools and you know intellectually the consequences when social media is not used respectfully.
I want to reach out to you at the moral level and beg you to remember that it isn’t how much you know that is crucial, but rather, the respect that you show for God, yourself, and others when you communicate through cell phones, computers, and other technology.

SCHOOL INFORMATION & ANNOUNCEMENTS
SUMMER OFFICE HOURS
Our front office is open Monday – Thursday from 9-2. Please get your PE uniforms and socks soon!

TUITION INVOICES
Thanks to all who have already paid in full or taken out a bank loan for school year 2020-21. You still have a full month to arrange this loan with FBT. The final date to submit a loan application to obtain a tuition loan for the 2020- 2021 school year is July 9, 2020.

The Office of Catholic School has directed schools to follow their normal procedures for invoicing tuition. Please know we are sensitive to families in these uncertain times. The reality, however, is that SCC is a tuition-operated school, and without tuition, we cannot exist. Thus, while every effort has been made to keep tuition as low as possible (just compare our tuition to other comparable schools), we must ask for tuition payments for next year in order to hire the best teachers, provide the most extensive curriculum, and offer the facilities in which our students can thrive. Thanks for your understanding. Please call Dr. Millet if extraordinary circumstances are causing problems.

ACT Saturday, June 13, 2020
Good luck to our Comets who are taking the ACT this Saturday. The ACT can play a critical role in a student’s college admission, as well as in securing TOPs. Please note the following tips for testing:
There is no penalty for guessing on these tests. Be sure to answer every question. If you leave a question blank, it will be marked incorrect.
Not sure of the answer? First, rule out every wrong answer you can. Then, pick the best answer from those left over.
Get plenty of sleep the night before the test.
If you finish early, go back and review your work.
Bring two #2 pencils, a calculator, your driver’s license, and a great attitude!
You got this Comets!

Clarion Herald
The Clarion Herald can be found here. This special publication put together by the Archdiocese of New Orleans helps us to stay connected as Catholics.

As we prepare for Graduation 2020 and School Year 2020-2021, all of us at SCC would like to thank all of you for your continued support of your child’s education and life at St. Charles Catholic High School. Each young man and woman is important to the school community and brings his/her own special gifts and spark of light to our building each day. We value our students and thank you for entrusting them to us for their high school education.

Have a blessed weekend!
Our Lady of Prompt Succor! Hasten to help us!

In closing, please join SCC in praying our Family Prayer

Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism.

We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people.

Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence.

Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human dignity in our community.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. Mother Henriette Delille, pray for us that we may be a holy family.
