Class of 2020 Important Dates

Dear Class of 2020 Seniors and Families,

While this school year is one we will never forget, the Class of 2020 will be remembered for years to come for all they have accomplished over the last 5 years as well as for the way they overcame obstacles during this historic time.

We want you to know that we miss you and the events that are strong traditions in the history of St. Charles Catholic High School. We are committed to making your graduation experience memorable with a continued twist on our traditions.

This letter is to give you some concrete dates, share with you some of the special sentimentalities and traditions we have in store for you, and invite your families to help be a part of planning some of these special moments of your graduation. Please look at these dates as a snapshot of things to look forward to, but hardly the finished products. We will continue to communicate with you and your families in this ever-changing time we find ourselves.

The Governor's Stay at Home Order through May 15 will not allow us to hold traditional commencement or end of year ceremonies as previously scheduled. However, we are planning a traditional graduation ceremony to the extent possible while maintaining compliance with state and local social distancing directives.

We anticipate after May 15, that Louisiana could move into Phase I of the White House's guidelines for reopening. These guidelines include "Large Venues (e.g., sporting venues, places of worship) can operate under very strict physical distancing protocols." After consulting with our Office of Catholic Schools Superintendent, Sheriff Tregre, and Parish President Hotard, we believe we will have an opportunity to allow the Class of 2020 to graduate in our new SCC stadium with appropriate social distancing required during the entire ceremony. The number of guests allowed to attend the ceremony may change based on state and local social distancing restrictions announced later in May.

At this time, contingent upon the expiration of Louisiana's Stay at Home Order, we plan to hold the following end of year activities and our St. Charles Catholic High School 2020 Commencement Ceremony with strict social distancing guidelines as follows:

May 15, 2020

In order for our ceremony to adhere to safety guidelines, graduates will be seated six feet apart on the field; stadium capacity will remain at 25%, which means attendee tickets will be limited and strictly enforced; only 4 guest tickets per graduate; and members of vulnerable populations will be encouraged not to attend.

Our students will be seated on the football field and guests in the stadium. There were many things considered to reach this important decision. One of the many factors is that one of our seniors will report to the Air Force Academy on June 25.

We will live-stream the SR Mass and graduation on YouTube so those who cannot or choose not to attend may still watch and enjoy the ceremonies.

We believe that we can create a safe environment and remain in complete compliance with social distancing protocols without sacrificing these important events for our graduates. Please note that no signs, noise makers, confetti, or balloons will be permitted inside the school gates. These measures help to ensure that all graduates and families are able to view and enjoy the ceremonies.

It is our hope that by working together as a Comet Community, this may be a positive step towards safely restoring some normalcy while giving the sendoff our SCC graduates so greatly deserve.

Please also note the following additional information for Seniors 2020:
