NEWS FROM CAMPUS

Registration for 2020-2021

Registering and class scheduling for St. Charles Catholic High School are an online process. On Monday March 2, 2020 , parents will receive an email from St. Charles Catholic High School (donotreply@stcharlescatholic.org) that will allow you to access your student portal and register your Comet. This email will include a specific link to your child’s registration information. You must click on this link to register your child for the upcoming school year at SCC. If you don't receive an email from SCC by Tuesday, March 3 with your child's specific registration link, please call the school front office.

Students will receive a 2020-2021 registration packet with important items including registration information, a scheduling worksheet, and financial information. Only students in good financial standing by March 2, 2020 will receive a registration packet for 2020-2021.

Please note that on March 11, 2020, at 5:30 p.m., administrators, staff members, and representatives from FBT will be at SCC to answer any questions you may have with regards to registration, scheduling, and online payments.

The SCC registration window will be available beginning Monday, March 2, 2020, through Wednesday, March 18, 2020. To secure your placement at SCC, online registration and scheduling must be completed through the school website, and the registration fee of $425 must be entered and paid through the FBT tuition portal website by March 18, 2020.

Early registration allows us to better plan and prepare for the next school year. Please note that course requests for students who are officially registered for the coming school year will receive priority when schedules are created. We look forward to serving you again next school year.

See You on March 2!

We want to remind our students to use this time-off wisely to review and study coursework in order to maintain the highest averages possible in each subject area. Always remember to make good choices during this week off and to spend time with family.

Continue to follow SCC on twitter @scc_hs for school news and updates throughout the break! Also, read, read, read!

As we enter into Lent next week, let us ask God for a new grace that will bring us closer to Him. During these forty days, look for ways you can simplify your lifestyle to make more room for God.
As part of our Lenten observance, SCC will be distributing Rice Bowls in support of Catholic Relief Services. Last week, SCC had the privilege of hosting Thomas Awiapo, a former recipient of CRS's services who now speaks on behalf of CRS's mission to end global hunger. As a child, Awiapo was orphaned in Ghana, having lost his family as a result of malnutrition.

In his search for food, he encountered Catholic Relief Services, which offered him food in exchange for an education. Awiapo credits CRS with saving his life, and every cent or dollar we get into our Rice Bowls this Lent can help CRS to continue saving lives all over the world. Thank you for your donations! We'll be collecting the bowls as Easter approaches!

Switzerland & Italy Trip: Last Call!

LEGISLATIVE YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL NOW ACCEPTING
APPLICATIONS FOR 2020-2021

The Louisiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council (LYAC) is now accepting applications for membership from high school students who have an interest in representing the voices of other young people around the state. LYAC is an annually appointed body composed entirely of students that tackle issues affecting the youth of Louisiana.

The purpose of LYAC is to facilitate the communication between youth and the legislature, and to give students a unique opportunity to be involved in the workings of state government. The council studies and addresses a variety of issues of importance to young people such as education, mental health, civic engagement, the environment, and school safety.

Members of the council are selected from a wide pool of statewide applicants who display a strong interest in civic involvement. The thirty-one member council includes three students representing each of the six congressional districts and the remaining members serve at large. Applicants must be between the ages of fourteen and nineteen and enrolled in a public or private high school, charter school, home school, or GED skills program during the 2020-2021 school year.

The deadline to apply is March 27, 2020. The application may be accessed at civiced.louisiana.gov and then by clicking on LYAC at the top of the page. All applicants are required to submit two recommendation letters in addition to the eight short essay questions and application form. For additional information, please contact Megan Bella at bellam@legis.la.gov or 225-342-2370.
