Early Dismissal -
Friday, September 6

We will have an early dismissal tomorrow due to the away football game at South Lafourche. Lunch will be shortened by 10 minutes, but class times will not be shortened. Dismissal for the entire school will take place at 2:35 PM.

Special Firsts
at SCC
First Mass of the School Year

Our first school Mass was a lovely liturgy celebrated by Fr. Stephen Dardis who spoke about the importance of making time for prayer and quieting our minds to receive the Lord.

First Lunch & Learn

Next Lunch & Learn
Our next Lunch & Learn will be a special patriotic presentation on September 11. Captain Todd Bourgeois will join us at SCC to speak about the importance of leadership and patriotism as part of our Catholic way of life. Capt. Bourgeois is a veteran of the US Navy Seabees and has served as a firefighter for over 30 years. The first 50 students to sign up have reserved spots with this special guest!

Red, White & Blue Dress Down Day
In order to assist the Eagle Scouts in their efforts to purchase a new flagpole for SCC, we will host a Red, White, & Blue dress down day on September 11. Thank you to senior Luke Ringe for coordinating this fundraiser! Students who plan to dress down should plan to give $1, but all donations are appreciated! See below for dress down guidelines:

-wear school bottoms
-wear a red, white, or blue t-shirt
-wear red, white, or blue socks, tennis shoes, hair accessories, hats, & other accessories

-wear anything promoting or representing the use of illegal drugs, satanic or demonic images, or anything with explicit language
-wear anything that promotes a specific political affiliation
-wear slides, flip flops, or any shoe that doesn't match the Friday Dress guidelines

First Friday Prayer Services
Please mark your calendars for this year's Friday Prayer Services which will take place on the first Friday of each month. Parents, Grandparents, & other family friends of the SCC Community are invited to take part in a short prayer in SCC's Chapel. Please check in at the front office when arriving for the service. We'd love to have you join us as we seek to put "Jesus Over Everything" this school year!

Beta Club Officers

The Senior Beta Club (grades 9-12) had their first meeting on Wednesday, September 4. Candidates running for office gave speeches, and Mrs. Bologna and Mr. Madere went over the plans for the year. This year the club will be volunteering with Special Olympics and a homeless shelter in New Orleans. They will also sell World’s Finest Chocolate.

Comet Friends and Family Club

All parents are invited to attend the first CFFC meeting of the 2019-2020 school year has been changed to Wednesday, September 11 @ 6:30 PM. We look forward to meeting with you all and sharing information about how to get involved in SCC.

8th Grade Travels to Boston
8th graders, get excited! Boston is waiting for you this Spring! We were so excited to see you and your family at our informational meeting this week!

Just a reminder! The first deposit along with the SCC field trip form and travel agreement are due to Mrs. Stuart by September 20.

It's going to be an unforgettable experience!

There will be a safe environment training on 9/10/19 at Ascension of Our Lord School at 6:30pm. Any employee or volunteer who has ongoing, unsupervised contact with minors – or anyone who attends an overnight event with minors – must complete the following steps:

1. Attend Safe Environment training. No pre-registration or phone calls are necessary. Just show up and sign in with your name and the name of your parish/school when you arrive. Please be sure to check the calendar the day of the training – changes will be reflected there.
2. Background check. This is handled through your parish or school. Contact the appropriate staff member.
3. Set up your personal Austin Computing login and complete your online application.

Century Club Information
Century Club Memberships includes 2 reserved seats at the home varsity football games, 1 reserved parking spot, 2 general admission tickets for SCC athletic events, and more!

The volleyball team is off to a great start this season! On Tuesday, the team traveled to St. Katherine Drexel and the JV won in 2 games with scores of 25-10 and 25-9. The Varsity won the match in 4 games: 25-23, 25-15, 13-25, 25- 20. On Wednesday, the teams played East St. John at SCC; thank you to all who came to cheer on the Comets! The freshmen team was victorious with scores of 25-23 and 25-12. The JV team played 3 games and fell short with scores of 25-15, 23-25, and 6-15. Varsity claimed their second victory - 25-15, 25-15, and 25-11. The JV and Varsity travel to Ascension Christian in Gonzales today with a start time of 5pm for the JV match. Best of luck ladies!

Congratulations to the JV Football team for their 28-6 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas last night. The team was led by Reid Landeche with 2 touchdown passes to Jackson Jensen & Troy Johnson. John Decker had a touchdown and Jermaine Roussel threw to Dillon Brown for another touchdown! The defense was led by Jace Oubre, Eric Cador, and Jake Jeandron! Way to go, team!

Cross Country
Boys and girls cross-country have their first meet Wednesday, September 11, 2019. They will be running in the Patrick Taylor Invitational at NOLA Motorsports Park, 11075 Nicolle Boulevard, in Avondale, LA. It is a 3-mile course on a race car track! Girls will race at 4:00pm. Boys will race at 5:15pm. Run, Comets, run!

Swimmers have been practicing in the evenings with Coach Michelle Jensen. Good luck in your preparation, team!

Technology Devices in PE
All students who are in PE classes should bring their technology devices to the gym this Thursday. Students engaged in the Health curriculum should also bring their devices on Fridays. Please remember that technology devices are not allowed in the gym at any other time.

School Pictures
Picture package order links were emailed to parents on August 10. If you did not receive an email please use the attached link to place your order with Romaguera.

Attention seniors who did NOT take a picture with Romaguera Photography at SCC during the summer: In order to have a cap and gown picture in the 2019-2020 yearbook, you should make an appointment to take a cap and gown picture with the studio by Saturday, November 30, 2019. NO photos will be accepted after this date!

Campus Ministry Meeting
Campus ministry will meet Friday, September 6th during the first half of lunch! This meeting is open to all students interested in getting more involved in SCC's Campus Ministry! You can help create, plan, and lead CM events at SCC! Be a part of something GREAT!

Stagehands Meeting
There will be a Stagehands informational meeting in the Music Room this Friday at the second half of lunch (11:35 a.m.-11: 55 a.m.) for any student interested in becoming a member. This group helps to foster an awareness of the performing arts in the community, and its members are expected to support our activities and spring production by participating in various fundraisers throughout the year.

Service Hour Opportunity
Volunteers are needed to help with childcare during Ascension of Our Lord’s PTO meeting on Thursday, September 5 from 6:00-8:00. Please email Amy Fernandez at if interested.

Carnival Ball
Calling all students who would like to participate in Krewe de Charles Bal Masque XXXIII court - we are in need of couples who want to be a part of this tradition at SCC. March for Life
The Archdiocese of New Orleans March for Life bus trip will take place on January 21-26, 2020! Registration is NOW OPEN! Students may pick up a registration paper from the magazine rack by the front office. Registration and deposit are both due on September 20th. ACT Prep
ACT prep classes will be offered for the October test. Classes will begin the week of September 16 and will end the week of October 21. Math and science will be held on Monday; English, on Tuesday; and reading, on Wednesday. Classes will begin at 3:00 PM and last from 1-2 hours. The cost of each course is $100. Registration forms are on green paper in the magazine rack by the front office. The last day to sign up is Friday, September 13.

Comet Ambassadors
Comet Ambassadors promote St. Charles Catholic in our community, meet and greet visitors to our school, introduce visitors to faculty & staff, conduct tours for potential families and students, orient new students to the Comet Way, assist in special events as a representative of our school, and are student leaders who have an enthusiastic spirit for SCC! Becoming an ambassador for SCC is an honor and should be taken very seriously. If you are interested in becoming an SCC Ambassador, please complete this form and submit it by Thursday, September 5th @ 8:00PM. A meeting/short interview will be scheduled as part of the review process. If you have any questions about this application, email Mrs. Creppel at Once a student is selected as an SCC Ambassador, members are required to attend at least 2-3 mandatory informational, training, and practice sessions before OpenHouse on November 4th.
