Comet News - Thursday, March 21
Hello SCC Community,
This afternoon, the Senior Class will be heading to Camp Abbey in Covington for their overnight retreat. It is a tradition in our Church for a person about to enter into a new phase of his/her life to pause for earnest reflection, to look back on the lessons of the past, and to contemplate God’s plan for his/her future. Let us pray for all of our seniors, those going on the retreat and those remaining behind. May God, indeed, show them his plan for them and may they return ready to continue their hard work and finish the year strong. We' would like to thank everyone who is making this retreat possible for the Class of 2019 as they are soon being "Sent" to live out their faith in new communities and new vocations after graduation. What a special day to be a Comet!

HOW TO PREPARE
Get your rest! A sleepy brain can struggle to make connections during testing, and sitting in a quiet room can be a real temptation for taking a nap. Instead, be sure to get good sleep the night before a test and give yourself the best chance at remaining focused!
Eat well & stay hydrated! Your body needs nutrients and energy to function well, and just like a sleepy brain can lose focus, an unfueled brain can do the same! Give your body some healthy substance in the morning so you won't be distracted by hunger or sluggishness during the test.
Consider a strategy! If you know yourself well as a student, then you should know your strengths. Going into a standardized test, it may feel overwhelming to be faced with your less favorite subjects & unfamiliar question styles. It's best to consider a strategy for whenever you meet a challenge on the test. Perhaps you'll skip the harder questions and come back to them after you've answered the others. Perhaps you'll give yourself a certain amount of time to consider a question before moving on. Whatever your approach, just remember that you can always make an educated guess. Click here for more on test-taking strategies.
Stay positive! It's important to believe in your ability and to feel confident going into a test. This will help relieve stress and worry and allows the mind to focus more clearly. Plus, you'll be happier throughout the day! Some test takers even like to think of the test as a type of game where they are betting on themselves to do well and setting goals for success. Try visualizing yourself doing well on the test and let the be the
The deadline for the registration fee has been extended to March 31, and starting on April 1, registration will no longer be discounted. After April 1, the full fee of $525 will apply.
Please be sure to check your email for a specific link to each child’s registration information based on the information that was given to SCC during the past registration process. Parents must click on this link to register their child for the upcoming school year at SCC.
Students received a paper packet which contained information about tuition, fees, the payment process through First Bank and Trust, course selection materials, and a schedule map to assist students in choosing courses for next year.
Spring Open House
SCC opened its doors to the public last night as the Spring Open House brought together the Catholic Schools of the region all under one roof to show the interested families of the River Parishes everything that Catholic education has to offer.
Representatives from St. Peter's Reserve, St. Joan of Arc, Ascension of Our Lord, and St. Charles Borromeo greeted families with Pre-K to 7th grade students while families with teens were able to meet teachers and administrators from SCC.
All visiting families received a tour of the school, including our renovated classrooms, gym, hallways, and the new chapel.
If you or someone you know would still like a chance to come and learn about everything SCC has to over, don't hesitate to contact the school office
We'd love to show you what it means to be a Comet!
Grandparents' Day Invitations & Lunch Orders
On April 2nd we will be celebrating Grandparents' Day here at SCC. Each student received a blue flyer with information about how to RSVP for grandparents, as well as how to order a lunch. If a student does not have a grandparent who is able to attend, another important matriarch or patriarch of your family may be invited.
Please return the blue forms to the school office by Thursday, March 28th regardless of whether or not the student is ordering a meal from the Starsteppers or have grandparents attending on this day. We are looking forward to this special day with our students' loved ones because we know how important grandparents are in our students' lives.
Lent Lock In 2019
Last Thursday night, SCC hosted the Lent Lock In for Comets of all grade levels. Campus Ministry provides lock ins for Advent and Lent, and students lead the retreats with talks, activities, prayers, & special seasonal reflections. Students spend the night doing spiritual activities at school and are treated to a hot breakfast in the morning before Mass!
This year's theme was Dust & Deliverance, which asked students to consider both the gravity of Ash Wednesday & the promise of Easter. Students had Adoration with live music, a scavenger hunt, student-led Stations of the Cross, and Mass celebrated with Fr. Dardis.
Campus Ministry would like to thank all the students who volunteered to plan and run the retreat, as well as all those who attended. It was a wonderful success!

Share the Gift of Poetry this National Poetry Month
The Creative Writing Club is happy to offer SCC the chance to celebrate National Poetry Month this April by sending handmade poetry grams to your friends and loved ones. Get an order form from Mrs. Flynn, Mrs. Stuart, or from the magazine rack outside the office.
You can send these scrolls of poetry to anyone you’d like, and you can choose your theme, be it friendship, humor, love, or even a special message to your prom date! Each gram is $2, but you can order 3 for $5. All orders are due by the end of the school day on April 2nd.
Call for Baby Pictures
At Athletic Banquet each year, a slideshow plays of pictures of each senior as a toddler, age 2-7, followed by a photo of them as a senior. In order to keep this tradition alive, we're requesting that you help us out by sending a toddler photo of your athlete to Mrs. Lowry. Please submit photos by Wednesday, April 17th.
Mr. Zeringue already has copies of your sons and daughters as seniors, so there is no need to send one of these.
We will take physical photos with the student's name and age written on the back, but we prefer digital files (.jpg) via email if possible. Please include the athlete's name in the subject line.
Please send to email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you have any questions, please email or call Tricia Lowry at 985-652-3809.
