2012 Season
The Comet boys and girls swim team came up with another stellar performance at the Division III state meet in Sulfur Wednesday and Thursday. The boys edged out E. D White 278-272 and captured their fifth state championship in the last 10 years. The girls team finished second behind Episcopal and continued their streak of top three finishes.
The boys win came down to the last race - the 400 freestyle relay. The Comets trailed E.D.White going into the final leg of the race and the pressure was on senior Gage Alleman. When Alleman dove into the water he trailed E.D White by over 2 seconds but finished with a time of 47.57 a personal best. Alleman won by less than a second and in doing so helped the Comets capture the state championship.
Here's a great story written by Andrew Lopez of nola.com about the Comets thrilling victory.
Sulphur – Gage Alleman stood on the starting block with his body shaking.
He knew all of the eyes in theSPARAquaticCenter were on him. The St. Charles senior also knew what he had to do and he wasn’t going to let anything, or anyone, stop him.
The Comets and E.D. White entered the final race of the Division III Championship Swim Meet, the 400 yard freestyle relay, tied at 238. Alleman was swimming the anchor leg and entered the water more than two seconds behind the final Cardinals swimmer.
He made it up the time a big way.
Alleman closed out with a 47.57 split to giveSt. Charles a winning time of 3:26.59, just ahead of E.D. White’s 3:27.07, and also the Division III state title.
“This is what I train for. This is what you do it for,” Alleman said. “I knew I was going to win when I jumped in. I just did what I needed to do. I was nervous more than any of my other races. But now, it feels awesome.”

A Minor Setback for a Major Comeback
Hurricane Issac was a minor setback for the swim team. The pool they were using to practice was damaged by the hurricane, and they don't know when it will be fixed. This may seem like a major problem, but the swim team is staying in shape by doing land practices everyday after school. Also, the swim meet they were suppose to be attending on Saturday was cancelled because of the hurricane and will most likely be scheduled to another date. They are not gonna let this ruin their chances to do well in State. Good luck and Go Comets!
The Start of a Great Year for the Comet Swim Team
The Comet swim team is more ready than ever this year, with the biggest team SCC has seen in years. Swimmers have been practicing diligently since the first day of school and are preparing for the first swim meet later in September. The boys and girls each have a great chance at winning state this year, and they are practicing very hard with this thought in mind. Coach Falgoust and Coach Michelle along with Coach Angie and Coach Greg have been coming up with intense workouts for the swimmers. Everyone involved with the swim team has positive thoughts for this year and are ready to see what the Comets are made.
Senior swimmers are very excited for their last year of swimming and looking forward to having a great and successful year in the water. Senior swimmer Austin Matherne says, “I am pumped about this year. We have all been practicing extremely hard, and we are all ready for this year. Being a senior, I know this is my last time swimming as a Comet and I will do everything I can to not disappoint.” Another senior swimmer Elise Loisel says, “I really see potential in our swim team this year, and I am excited for my last year at swimming. I feel like this is our year to win.”
