The Comets made a long road trip to Mississipppi last Friday night to face the Jefferson County Tigers. The Comets jumped out to a quick first quarter lead of 14-0 and never looked back. That lead expanded to 34-0 by halftime as the defense and special teams both scored points. THe Comets scored one more touchdown in the second half as they gave their younger players an opportunity to get some playing time.
The first two touchdowns were short runs scored by senior Zack Vicknair(2 yard run) and junior Ayden Authement(1 yard run). To extend the lead, senior Carter Chauvin kicked a 31 yard field goal. The Comets defense stayed strong and had an exciting interception leading to a touchdown(39 yards) by senior cornerback Regdrick Hackett. Davon Sturgis then had a 15 yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter. The last play of the first half was a 38 yard field goal by Carter Chauvin. The only score of the second half score of the game was a 26 yard touchdown pass by junior Ayden Authement to sophomore Brandon Kragle.
The Comet offense rushed for 241 yards in the game. Sophomore Kayden Cambre led the Comets with 6 carries for 83 yard. Juniors Samare Scott and Devon Sturgis each rushed for 44 yards. The defense intercepted 3 passes, had a fumble recovery. Senior Regdrick Hackett had two intecptions including the 39 yard touchdown. Senior Bryce Bertucci had an intercpetion and linebacker Kaiden Jones had a fumble recovery.
The Comets will host their first home game Saturday, October 2, at 2 PM.
