Congratulations! The Comets had a great day at the District 11-2A Championships held at Tad Gormley Stadium in City Park Wednesday, April 20th. Both teams finished 4th in the District standings. Top performances and personal best records were recorded for the Comets in several events.
The throwers got the meet started with some outstanding performances. Mya Brown won the District Championship the Shot Put as well as the Discus. Mya was also named Outstanding Female Field Athlete for the meet.
Krissten Ellsworth and Jake Jeandron doubled District Runner-Up finishes in the Discus and the Javelin.
Dillon Duley continued to improve his efforts in the Shot Put with a season best performance. His throw helped him finish 5th and scored two points for the team.
The Track events started with Layla Jackson and Joy Bartholomew competing in the 100m Dash. Joy finished 7th and Layla finished 8th— both with personal best times. Samare Scott finished District Runner-up in the 100m Dash with his best time of the year. Joseph Haydel finished twelfth in the race also posting a season’s best effort. Alejandra Menjivar was next with a 5th place finish in the 800m Run, scoring two points for the girls’ team. Samare Scott dominated the 400m Dash to run away as the District Championship in that event.
The evening ended with Layla Jackson and Joy Bartholomew in the 200m Dash. Layla finished 5th with a personal best time and Joy finished 7th.
Next up for the Comets is the Regional Championships back at Tad Gormley Wednesday, April 27th. Mya, Krissten, Jake, and Samare will be fighting for one of the top three spots and earn a trip to the Outdoor State Championships at LSU May 6th. Go Comets!
