2017 Season

Sulphur Results

Having to face one of the top softball teams in any classification, the Comets gave up at least one run in every inning but the first, and fell to top-seeded Calvary Baptist, 11-1, in a six-inning Division III semifinals game Saturday at Frasch Park.

The big blow for the Comets came in the top of the fifth when they loaded the bases and scored a run to cut the lead to 5-1 with no one out. But a couple of strikeouts and a groundout to second, and that was all she wrote.

Calvary scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning and one more in the sixth to end it.sbsrs

“First off, no one expected us to be in this position,” St. Charles coach Ty Monicasaid. “Last year, I graduated six seniors and we lost in the second round to a really good Mangham team. We lost some really good players, and expectations this year were low.

“So, for this team to get this far with a great comeback victory (Friday) against a really good (Hannan) team, it says a lot about our character. It speaks volumes about the program and what these girls are actually made of.”
