Chearleading News
Your SCC Comet Cheerleaders have been hard at work since early June. The Cheerleaders have had minor setbacks due to the global pandemic Covid-19. The Cheerleaders started two months later than what they would in the past, however they have been working extremely hard practicing Mondays and Tuesdays to perfect the squad. This year the cheerleaders were not able to host the annual mini camp, but they did in fact participate in a at home UCA camp where they achieved many accomplishments as a team.
The team currently consists of just two seniors, one being the captain. The captain Riley Monica tells us, "The 2020-2021 Comeet Cheerleaders faced some adversity starting the year because of Covid-19, delaying our usual team bonding. We have a vast amount of different experience levels with such a young team. We have been working all summer perfecting our skills. We focused on the importance of always improving to be a better teammate and of course, showing our Comet Pride!" The other senior Melody Newsome says, "Being a Senior Comet Cheerleader during this time has been challenging, but it has taught me how to overcome obstacles and be a better example for others. I am thankful to be a part of such a supportive, and caring team during my Senior year."
The SCC cheerleaders are led by the head coach Dennille Monica and she is assisted by Stacey Bosco. Dennille speaks on the cheerleaders of 2020-2021 saying, " The 2020-2021 Comet Cheerleaders faced some adversity from the start because of Covid-19. Since we have such a large group this year we are having to work extra hard to learn and perfect all cheers and dances in preparation for football. I am hopeful that these girls will put in extra work to ensure we are able to show Comet Nation what we are made of. We are looking forward to the traditional school model and being able to show our fellow classmates what it is to be a Comet Cheerleader and infect the halls with Comet Pride!"
Your 2020-2021 Comet Cheerleaders are committed and ready to lead the crowd on Friday Night Football Games and support the functions SCC will host. They will continue perfecting the team as a whole and working hard. The Cheerleaders hope to be able to compete later in the year, however there is nothing the Cheerleaders love more than engaging the crowd and celebrating the Comet Family Victories.

The cheerleaders have been active and ready since early May, and this summer the Comet cheerleaders attended UCA camp and held their annual minicamp. The Comet cheerleaders are currently working hard at weekly practices and cheering on the Comet Football team to victory. Not only do they spend their time supporting all of the school’s organizations, but they are also a competition team. The girls spend Wednesdays at SCC with Louisiana Tumble and Cheer Academy (LTCA) coaches working on perfecting new skills in tumbling and stunting. For competitions they use choreography from LTCA as well as material learned at UCA summer camp.
Spirit Blast Competition
The Comet cheerleaders competed at the Spirit Blast Competition on December 14, 2019. They brought home a 2nd place trophy! The Team along with Coach Dennille Monica and Stacey Bosco would like to thank all Comet fans who attended and sent messages of support; we appreciate you more than you know. We Are Comets!
LHSAA Cheerleading Competition
The Comet cheerleaders competed in the LHSAA State Championship game day competition at the Pontchatrain Center on November 30, 2019. The girls performed exceptionally well and were ranked high of the 9 teams in their division.
UCA Gameday Championship
The Comet cheerleaders attended UCA cheer camp (Universal Cheerleaders Association Camp) and took home the first place award in cheer and second place in rally routine. The team also recieved the "banana" award for showing the most spirit throughout the whole week. Go Comets!
"It takes definitely a lot of time, its a commitment. These girls tryout in late March early April, and they pretty much go nonstop until tryouts again in March or April.” - Dennille Monica (Comet cheerleading coach)
Congratulations to the 2019-2020 cheerleaders!
