ACT, Study Skills, & MAP Testing

ACT Testing @ SCC

The ACT standardized test is a college-readiness exam that determines acceptance and scholarship offerings for colleges all over the country.  As a college-prep school, we prioritize success on this exam and seek to offer students the opportunity to grow in their test-taking skills and strategies while also teaching required content in our curriculum.

The ACT is offered twice a year on campus with official district testing status.  Tests are normally administered in mid-October and then again in mid-March.  Students have the option of taking a Saturday ACT test at locations around the region as they see fit.  Families can check the ACT website for upcoming National test dates and to register.   In March, upperclassmen take the official ACT test on district testing days, and younger students take the PreACT or the PreACT8/9 on SCC's district testing day.

Study Skills & ACT Prep

SCC is offering an ACT Prep class during the school day for students in the 10th and 11th grades.  Students must have a Pre-ACT or ACT score between 16-23.  The class will work to improve student scores and give them a better understanding of how the test is set up.

SCC now also has a study skills class for our academic 8th graders to help them to make the adjustment into high school.  This class will focus on. organizational skills and different methods of preparation for tests and projects.

MAP Testing

MAP Testing allows for SCC teachers to individualize learning for every Comet. The data collected by the MAP tests make it possible for teachers to screen every student's growth, place students precisely into learning strategies, and predict performance on upcoming ACT tests.  The MAP test is an adaptive program designed to discover the limits of each student's knowledge and skill proficiency. Families will receive copies of data collected at the annual parent nights in order to partner in the growth and goal-setting for each student.
