    In-"Vest" In Our Police

Sheriff Mike Tregre and deputies from St. John Parish Sheriff's office, along with Major Edward Beckendorf and deputies from St. Charles Parish Sheriff's office were honored after our school wide mass on Tuesday, February 21st.  Several of the deputies present were St. Charles Catholic alumni.

The Beta Club recently raised $4,000 for both sheriffs’ offices to buy bulletproof vests. There were 21 police officers that attended.  Sheriff Trpolice egre gave a heartfelt, inspiring speech and then introduced officer Jason Triche (who was wounded while on duty).  The students then gave Deputy Triche a fabulous
standing ovation.  It certainly made us understand the breadth of our donations. Major Eddie Berkendorf from St. Charles Parish then related what our
donations meant in relation to corporal works of mercy. He explained to the faculty and students how every time an officer walks out of the door of his home without a vest on, he is in essence naked and vulnerable to harm, so he said that we actually clothed the deputies by buying them vests. All of the officers stood up and clapped in gratitude for the event. It was sincerely touching.

SCC Alumni officer Steven Faucheux said, “St. John Sheriff’s Office can not thank SCC enough for today! What a thoughtful idea the Beta Club had. I’m proud to be a Comet. Thanks for inspiring our youth.”

Mrs. Louque and Mrs. Suzy Bologna would like to thank everyone for participating in this event. It was better than they could have ever dreamed of.

    Cookies With Claus

The BETA Club went to the third annual “Cookies with Claus” on Saturday morning, December 1st.  Over 40 SCC students attended the event.  At "Cookies with Claus" everyone had fun with Santa, while eating cookies, and writing Christmas letters.  There was also an ugly Christmas sweater contest.  Santa came and read a story to everyone.  It was something to remember.

Our Comets had something to say about it:

"The smiles on their faces reminded me what the true meaning of Christmas is - enjoying activities with people you care about!" -Madison St. Pierre

"This Saturday, I had a great time hosting the Special Olympics.  I learned many new things about them and met many new people.  I am glad that I attended this great event."  -Collin Cedotal

The SCC BETA club is a member of the largest youth organization in the nation promoting academic achievement, character, leadership, and service. SCC has been named a "School of Distinction," by the National BETA club.  The club is open to new members that meet the academic requirements yearly. Returning members have to be in good standing by meeting both academic and service requirements. beta
