Hundreds of fans, supporters, parents, alumni and community members attended the blessing and ribbon cutting of the new Thomas J. Dupuy Stadium on Friday, September 27 at 5:30 p.m. Archbishop Gregory Aymond presided over the blessing of our new stadium and Mrs. Gayle Benson will joined us for this momentous occasion.

St. Charles Catholic High School was selected for a $50,000 General Field Support Grant from the NFL Foundation Grassroots Program. This year, the NFL Foundation Grassroots Program issued grants totaling over $3 million for the renovation and construction of football fields located in NFL communities nationwide. The school’s request was selected from the many highly qualified applications received.

The New Orleans Saints have included the NFL Grassroots Program as one of their community relations initiatives, and it is through the generous contributions of the NFL teams that this program is possible.

The Gayle and Tom Benson Foundation generously donated an additional $100,000 to the stadium project at St. Charles Catholic High School.

The school’s 10 for 10 Stadium Campaign has been a huge success due to the many Comet friends, parents, and alumni who donated towards this $540,000 project.

Friday night lights at SCC are important to the entire River Parish Community, and because of the generosity of so many, the new stadium is now in place. We are thankful for your pledges and payments and for your 10 for 10 commitments. Your continued pledge payments are needed to cover the remaining balance of this awesome project at SCC.

With every Friday night kick off, expectations are high, and everyone is a member of this team. While the players are on the field, they do not do battle alone. The student managers, cheerleaders, starsteppers and drumline, together with the players, make up 50% of SCC’s total enrollment. The positive impact from SCC’s storied football program has lasted for generations, and those Friday night traditions will continue.

This inclusive partnership of students, athletes, and coaches has created one of the most successful football programs in the state. The Comets have qualified for the state playoffs 17 consecutive years under the guidance of head coach Frank Monica. They won the school’s first state championship in 2011, going 15-0 on their way to capture the Class 3A title. The Comets were also state runners-up three times and state semi-finalists eight times in that span.

While winning is important, what happens on the field goes beyond the final score. “I am motivated to teach young kids fundamentals while instilling discipline and accountability which ultimately creates one’s work ethic,” Hall of Fame Coach Frank Monica said of the life lessons learned on the field. “I hope students walk away from SCC with a wholesome experience in an environment of enthusiasm.”

• Seating for 1,459 in 15 rows 
• ADA-Approved ramp and 16 wheelchair spaces
• Three access stairs and four stadium aisles with railing systems in the middle of each
• Press box measuring eight-feet by 24-feet plus a rooftop camera deck
