Comets edge Wildcats in Jamboree Thriller

Sometimes high school football jamborees resemble NFL exhibition games with plenty of mistakes, flawed execution, and several penalties and turnovers. While the Comets 35-34 win over East St. John provided all of the above, it also had the unusual excitement of mid season game between two rival schools. Fans of both teams left wondering what could happen later on this season to top this.

The game started with senior defensive back Brady Hitt picking off an ESJ pass on the first play from scrimmage. After a face mask pentaly the Comet offense was in business deep in Wildcat territory. Junior running back Marcus Hall scored the first touchdown on a nice 11 yard counter play. The Comets failed to convert the PAT and led 6-0. The Wildcats answered with a touchdown of their own but missed the extra point and the offensive fireworks were underway.

The Comets would score 4 more touchdowns rushing. Running backs Marcus Hall (2), Lazedrick Thompson (2), and quarterback Donnie Savoie would all score for the Comets. Ben Brady would connect on three extra points, while Thompson would make good on a swinging gate two point conversion after the Comets second score. Senior defensive back Aaron Hampton would make a nice interception and Ben Brady recovered a fumble.

Friday night the Comets open up the regular season on the road against Woodlawn of Baton Rouge.

The school address is 15755 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70817.

Comets Shine in Scrimmage

The Comet football team scrimmaged St. Michael in Baton Rouge Thursday. The 9th graders opened up the scrimmage and battled for three series of offense and defense. The varsity and junior varsity team competed for the remainder of the night. Defensively, the Comets forced several turnovers and did not allow any touchdowns. Brady Hitt (2), Ben Brady and Dante Scarpero all intercepted passes with Scarpero taking his pic to the endzone for a touchdown. The Comets forced and recovered several fumbles. On offense Marcus Hall, Harley Scioneaux, Lazedrick Thompson, and Chris Millet all scored touchdowns for the Comets. Next Thursday the Comets will face tougher competition when they meet East St. John in the Ed Reed River Parishes jamboree. The Comets game will begin at approximately 8 p.m. following the conclusion of the West St. John Riverside game. Tickets are on sale for $5 and can be purchased at the school office and the Quarterback Club Tuesday night. Tickets at the game will cost $7.
